The Disappearance of Sudiksha Konaki – Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) – March 6, 2025

On March 6, 2025, Sudiksha Konaki, a 20-year-old student from Loudoun County, Virginia, went to the beach with her friends and two unknown American men to celebrate their vacation. Sudiksha, a student at the University of Pittsburgh, was on vacation in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with five friends, enjoying the lively atmosphere and the warm Caribbean climate.

That Thursday evening, however, she lost contact with her friends at the beach and remained there late into the night with one of the American men. This man later returned to his hotel alone. Sudiksha, however, never made it back that night and was reported missing.

The police were called in and launched an investigation. The American man who was last seen with Sudiksha on the beach told investigators that at some point, he started feeling unwell and walked to the water, where he allegedly fell asleep. When he woke up, Sudiksha was gone. The only thing left behind was her shawl. Other than that, there was no trace of her. The police searched the beach but found no signs of a struggle or evidence suggesting foul play.

As of now, the American man, possibly a 22-year-old student from Iowa, is not considered a suspect. In the days following her disappearance, authorities investigated whether there were other people on the beach who might have been involved. Security footage was reviewed, and various individuals were checked. The local police interviewed several witnesses with assistance from the FBI.

A week after her disappearance, all possibilities remained open. Even the theory that Sudiksha Konaki may have walked into the ocean and drowned—either intentionally or accidentally—was not ruled out. The waters near Punta Cana are known for their strong and unpredictable currents, which have pulled in tourists before.

Sudiksha’s family is deeply concerned and has urged the police to do everything possible to find her. They have also not ruled out the possibility of an abduction.
